1 killed, 3 injured in crash along I-95 near Rockledge

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Interstate 95 at Fiske Boulevard in Brevard County has reopened following a fatal crash Wednesday afternoon.

Authorities said a van was traveling onto I-95 south from the Fiske Boulevard onramp, and instead of waiting to merge, it cut over the painted lines that separate the lanes and pulled in front of a tractor-trailer.

The driver of the semi told troopers he was unable to get out of the way quickly enough and clipped the back of that van.

Investigators said one of the victims was thrown from the van and killed.  Three others were taken to local hospitals with undisclosed injuries.

"If he had followed the safety zone, the entrance ramp is quite long right here, he had plenty of chance to merge on or wait until they had clearing before proceeding on to I-95," Lt. Michael Brown of FHP said.

The names of the victims have not been released.
