Father bonds out of jail in toddler's accidental self-shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The father of a 2-year-old, who accidentally shot himself with a .45-caliber handgun last week, bonded out of jail after he was arrested Tuesday, according to the Orange County Sheriff's Office.

Michael Garcia, 29, was arrested on charges of culpable negligence and child neglect, according the sheriff's office.

The child, Michael Garcia Jr., was hospitalized in stable condition at Arnold Palmer Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Authorities said the boy's father, grandmother and a family friend were in the home near Livingston Street and Powers Drive when the accident happened.

The gun is registered to the boy's mother, who wasn't home at the time of the shooting, authorities said.
