Feds make another arrest in Florida Hospital records case

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Federal authorities have made another arrest in a hospital records breach.

Sergei Kusyakov appeared before a federal judge in Orlando Monday.

WFTV has been following the major security breach that affected 700,000 Florida Hospital patients.

According to prosecutors, Kusyakov worked with Dale Munroe, a former Florida Hospital Celebration employee who's accused of accessing all those patient records.

Munroe, who was arrested last month, sold patient information, mostly from car crash victims, to Kusyakov, said investigators.

According to the criminal complaint, Kusyakov was a manager for Injury Help Hotline, a company that would refer patients to attorneys or chiropractors.

Patients from Florida Hospital received calls from that hotline directing them to a specific chiropractor, investigators said.

Investigators said they believe Kusyakov and his wife made payments by cash and even by check over a two year period to Munroe for the records.

Those records are supposed to be confidential medical records, protected under federal law.

Kusyakov remains in federal custody.

According to prosecutors, they are asking Kusyakov be kept behind bars because they believe he has tried to extort money from former business partners in order to flee the country.
