FHP: Girl, 17, in stolen pickup ran red light, caused crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — State troopers are expected to release dashcam video that recorded two teenage girls on a dangerous joyride in Orange County overnight.

Investigators said a 17-year-old girl driving a stolen pickup truck crashed into another car after she ran red lights on East Colonial Drive.

Kayla Stewart, of Winter Springs, was driving the stolen pickup truck with the headlights off, officers said.

Troopers said they tried to pull Stewart over, but she sped up and ran a few red lights.

The Florida Highway Patrol said Stewart then T-boned another car and crashed.

A 27-year-old man in the other car was hospitalized. His current condition has not been released.

Stewart suffered minor injuries, authorities said.

A passenger in the truck, Chelsea Keith, 18, suffered minor injuries, FHP said.

Stewart and Keith were both arrested on charges of stealing the truck.

Troopers said Stewart was also charged with driving without a license, fleeing and eluding, driving without headlights, running multiple red lights and causing a crash.

Channel 9 learned Keith was on probation after being found guilty of grand theft in 2011. She had an active warrant out for her arrest.
