FHP: Motorcyclist killed in crash in Volusia County

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a crash that left a Merritt Island man dead Tuesday.

According to FHP, a 41-year-old Deltona man was traveling northbound in a sedan on State Road 415 near the intersection with State Road 44 just before 4 p.m. when he lost control of the car.

Troopers say he entered the oncoming lanes of traffic and struck a southbound motorcycle head-on.

Troopers say the motorcycle rider, identified only as a 70-year-old man from Merritt Island, died at the scene.

According to FHP, he was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

The driver of the sedan was not injured.

Troopers say the crash is still under investigation.
