Former Bishop of Diocese of Orlando dead after lengthy illness

ORLANDO, Fla. — Bishop Norbert Dorsey, who was the Bishop of Orlando from 1990 until 2004 passed away Thursday, according to the Diocese of Orlando.

Dorsey, 83, died in Orlando after a long battle with cancer, the Diocese said in a press release.

During the time Dorsey headed up the Diocese of Orlando he saw it grow from 216,000 to nearly 400,000 Catholics, according to the Diocese.

Funeral arrangements will be announced at a later time. In lieu of flowers, Bishop Dorsey asked that contributions be made to the Passionist Community Support Fund, Passionist Pastoral Center, 111 South Ridge St., Suite 300, Rye Brook, N.Y., 10573 or Bishop Dorsey Colloquium, for clergy education and care, Diocese of Orlando, P.O.
