Former mayor's ex-wife accused of murder heads to trial in Brevard County

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — The ex-wife of a former Indialantic mayor is headed to trial in the alleged murder of another woman in 2010.

The body of Kelly Brennan, 46, was discovered off A1A in the Mark's Landing area of Melbourne Beach in February 2010.

Brennan's former friend, Sheila Graham-Trott, was later charged with first-degree murder. Detectives said Graham-Trott believed the victim was romantically involved with her estranged husband, former Indialantic Mayor Daniel Trott.

A jury in Graham-Trott's trial was sworn in at the Brevard County Courthouse on Friday.

According to authorities, the focus of the criminal investigation turned to the 48-year-old after her mother called 911.

"I think there's been a murder," the suspect's mother told a dispatcher.

"OK and where is the person at who is the victim?" the dispatcher asked.

Investigators said they were able to get enough information from the caller to determine who the victim was.

On Tuesday, jurors were dismissed before opening statements began because of defense concerns over last-minute witnesses.

"There's some matters I need to take up outside your presence before the trial can commence," Judge James Earp said.

The judge scheduled a hearing to discuss the issue and court was adjourned until Thursday afternoon.
