Former Sanford police officer files discrimination lawsuit

SANFORD, Fla. — Wednesday, only Channel 9 discovered that the Sanford Police Department was hit with a federal lawsuit.

Former officer De'Anthony Shamar claims the agency discriminated against him because he's black.

He said he was subjected to continued harassment and retaliation by his white superiors.

Last year, Channel 9 reported when Shamar was fired.

He had 38 complaints, 13 of which were sustained, during his nine-year career.

Late last month, WFTV was first to report another discrimination lawsuit against the department.
