• Fruitland Park policeman accused of leaking sensitive information

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. - A Lake County police officer is on the other side of the law Wednesday, accused of leaking sensitive information.

Officer Brent Tyler works for the Fruitland Park Police Department.

Eyewitness News reporter Kenneth Craig found out the Lake County Sheriff's Office has launched a criminal investigation.

Detectives are staying tight-lipped; they said they don't want to mess up an investigation underway that could end in charges.

Tyler has been with the Fruitland Park Police Department off and on for 11 years.

He's off the job and under criminal investigation, accused of disclosing sensitive information, which could land him behind bars.

Detectives in the Lake County Sheriff's Office said they've been digging into Tyler's activities since mid-June.

The State Attorney's Office came to them about the leak.

Authorities wouldn't say what he was giving out, but it was serious enough for them to tell him not to come back.

The police department told him last week he was on administrative leave, effectively immediately.

The police chief said he couldn't comment on the matter until the investigation is over.

Authorities said it could wrap up soon.

Eyewitness News is digging into Tyler's disciplinary history to see if he's been in trouble before.
