FWC encourages safe boating this Fourth of July weekend

ORLANDO, Fla. — If you plan on boating this holiday weekend, you may notice more officers on Florida’s waterways.

That’s because the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission teamed up with law enforcement agencies to make sure everyone stays safe.

FWC agents kicked off “operation dry water” on Friday, urging people to avoid drinking while out on the water.

They are also asking boaters to make a plan and share it with friends before heading out.

“We encourage everybody to file a float plan. That’s as simple as telling someone where you’re leaving from and what time you’re coming back. Make sure someone knows where you’re at, in the event of an emergency on the water, we have a starting point to locate you,” said FWC public information officer Chad Weber.

FWC will also be on the lookout for boaters under the influence.
