Gas station clerk opens fire on armed robbers in Daytona Beach

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police are searching for masked men who robbed a gas station Friday morning.

Investigators said the robbers entered the Sunoco gas station at 300 North Ridgewood Drive.

The robbers demanded money from the clerk, a customer and a store manager, as well as clearing out the cash drawer of about $500.

"He says, 'I will shoot you if you don't give me the money.' I said, 'I'm going to get you the money, don't worry,'" said the store manager, who did not want to be identified.

After the men ran out of the front door, the armed manager, the clerk and even the customer followed them, and a parking lot shootout ensued, police said.

The manager of the store told WFTV that he believes at least one of the robbers was shot, but they all fled in a silver Nissan Rogue or Morano SUV, with a fourth man as a getaway driver.

The store owner said he believes the men would have killed him had he not complied with their demands.

"Somebody like this come to take my life or put my family in jeopardy, I’m not going to let them. I'm not doing anything wrong," the owner said.

The man said he was angered by the men robbing his store and he is why he and his cashier opened fire.

"It's scary, you know, three guns in your face, one shotgun in your chest. So it's scary," the man said.
