Geneva residents frustrated with lack of answers to missing mail issues

SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — Residents in Geneva said they still have no answers as to why their mail keeps disappearing.

Since Channel 9 first reported about the problem a few weeks ago, more items have vanished and residents thought a federal investigation was underway.

The regional and national offices haven’t said what’s going on or if there’s an investigation.

It’s been about a month since residents started noticing their mail was missing or was found thrown in nearby ditches.

Resident Mark Alvershardt said he’s frustrated.

“They didn’t say anything. They acted like nothing was going on,” he said.

He collects coins and said he’s missing several hundred dollars' worth of pieces that tracking shows have been delivered.

“I mean, if they want to take my bills and pay them, that’s fine. But that’s not the case,” said Alvershardt.

He said it’s usually the valuables he has delivered that never come.

One resident said she got a card in the mail, but it was open and the gift certificate was missing from the inside.

Another resident is missing medications, and many people said they’re missing checks and debit cards.

Some residents said the regional postal services office said the Geneva location is under investigation.

The U.S. Postal Service's Office of Inspector General said it couldn’t confirm or deny if there was an investigation, but that this type of behavior is not tolerated and is rare among the hundreds of thousands of postal employees nationwide.

“I’d like to see them prosecutes,” said Mark Alvershardt.

The office said it's very important that every person who is missing mail contact federal agents.
