Groveland police chief resigns after seven months

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Groveland police chief is stepping down after seven months on the job in Lake County.

Chief Mark Palmer did not want to talk about his resignation when WFTV interviewed him Monday.

In a letter, he said the department had made great strides toward better serving the city.

He wrote he is stepping down with mixed emotions but would not say why he's leaving.

Palmer got the job in December, when former chief Tommy Merrill stepped down after serving as chief for 43 years.
