Happening Tuesday: Food giveaway in Sumter County

SUMTER COUNTY, Fla. — Some Wildwood-area families will have a chance to pick up food items at no cost Tuesday morning.

Farm Share, a nonprofit that aims to help food-insecure residents in Florida, will hold a food giveaway in conjunction with New Covenant United Methodist Church and the city of Wildwood.

The March 22 event is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m. and will be held at the following location:

  • 6938 Co Rd. 213, Wildwood Fla. 34785

Farm Share said it helps to fight hunger “by working hand-in-hand with local farmers to recover and redistribute produce that would otherwise be thrown away due to aesthetic imperfections.”

Farm Share has planned a similar food distribution event in Orlando on Thursday, March 24.

The organization with team up with Senator Randolph Bracy, Dedicated Senior Medical Center, and Promise Seeds Initiative.

Thursday’s event will be held at:

  • 2724 N Hiawassee Rd., Orlando, Fla. 32818

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, both distribution events will be drive-thru style to minimize contact and to help ensure the safety of everyone who participates, organizers said.

Attendees must also wear a mask and arrive in a vehicle with a trunk or cargo bed.

The giveaway events on Tuesday and Friday will be on a first-come, first-served basis and will operate until supplies run out.
