Holly Hill officials ask governor to reopen American Legions, bars

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — City leaders in Holly Hill have sent a letter to Gov. Ron DeSantis asking him to reopen bars.

Officials say some local veterans are struggling because their American Legion posts have been closed since March.

Mayor Chris Via said he’s taken calls from veterans, including one saying he copes with PTSD by going out and socializing with his family at American Legion Post 120.

David Lori, commander for American Legion Post 120, said dozens of veterans would show up at the post weekly for the camaraderie.

“It’s a big thing for people in the military to come out and vent with their own people,” he said.
