Squatters may have started house fires while trying to stay warm

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Two squatters may have started fires at two homes that were supposed to be abandoned early Tuesday morning, according to Orange County fire officials.

Firefighters said the squatters were trying to stay warm by starting fires inside the homes at about 3:30 a.m. Tuesday.

One of the homes was on Central Avenue near Ivey Lane in Orlando, and the other was near the interchange of I-4 and Fairbanks Avenue.

Both fires took about a half-dozen units to respond to extinguish the fires, officials said.

The fire marshals office was at the scene to investigate.

There were no injuries reported.
