Rattled investors began withdrawing funds from Silicon Valley Bank last week after it started to sell assets to boost up its balance sheet.

Since the bank’s failure, the Federal Reserve, Treasury and FDIC took over SVB. They’re now guaranteeing all Silicon Valley Bank depositors will have full access to their FDIC-insured money, up to $250,000, and that “no losses associated with the resolution will be borne by the taxpayer.”

On Sunday, state regulators in New York also took control of the now-failed Signature Bank, which was funding many cryptocurrency and real-estate companies.

Officials said those customers will also be made whole.

For now, one business owner said she’s considering pausing her shop on Etsy.

She, among others, is waiting to get paid. Meanwhile, they’re having to find other creative ways to sell their inventory to customers while also cutting back.

“It’s one of those things that you didn’t really see coming,” said Jennifer Forero, who owns Jewels By Jenny on Etsy.

Etsy used the bank to process their payments to sellers like Forero.

“Silicon Valley is notorious for financing startups,” said Chance Robinson, president and chief financial strategist at Strong Point Financial Group. “You take a brand-new business owner and give them a loan at a 7, 8, 9, 10% interest rate and it keeps increasing the way that it is, it’s a lot easier to faulter on that loan. “It’s kind of a recipe for a bad position.”

Etsy said on its website that the bank collapse has impacted a small group of sellers, and about 0.5% of its active seller base had their payments delayed on Friday.

Forero said she and others aren’t taking chances on continuing to sell through the website, and instead selling through Instagram and Facebook and using channels like Venmo or Cash App, which hasn’t been easy for customers.
