Hundreds march to Orlando City Hall over abortion access

ORLANDO, Fla. — As new legal battles brew over the right to abortion access nationwide, Central Floridians are sharing their opinions on recently passed legislation in other states.

Hundreds of people marched from Lake Eola Park to City Hall on Sunday to send a message to Florida's lawmakers.

“It's rights. It's what we deserve and what we need,” said Britteny Pollack.

Another marcher, Ema Paba, said: “Keep abortions safe, legal and accessible. All are equally important.”

Others in attendance at the event didn't agree.

“I believe the dignity of every human person is worth fighting for,” said Rose Thomas. “It feels good, you know, to be the voice for the other side.”

Abortion restrictions weren't passed this session in the Florida Legislature, but in other states, including Alabama and Missouri, bills restricting abortion access have passed.

State Rep. Anna Eskamani said Florida is not immune.

“Since 2010, we've seen over 30 bills be sponsored to restrict access to abortion, including an all-out abortion ban,” Eskamani said. “So we see all the time these efforts in Florida to attack access to safe, legal abortion.”
