As hurricane season kicks off, some still dealing with damage from last year’s storms

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — While the 2023 season just started, many people living along the coast are still dealing with damage from last year’s storms.

A lot of residents are asking why the repairs are taking so long.

However, different projects require different permits, and officials say getting those permits approved to get construction going is holding things up.

Volusia County officials said they’ve issued more than 85% of the emergency repair, replacement or new armoring applications in Daytona Beach Shores.

As to why some permits are just being issued, the City of Daytona Beach shores said:

“There is not one answer as to why some permits are just being issued. Each permit application is different.

It could be because FDEP or FWC require more information from the applicant. Another scenario is that FDEP or FWC is still reviewing the application.”
