Internet cafe robbed for second time in Marion County

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Three more people were robbed at a crime-prone Internet cafe in Marion County, authorities said.

The victims were held at gunpoint Sunday night at the Gold Rush Internet Cafe on Southwest State Road 200.

Authorities said a rock was thrown through the window and that's how the robbers got in.

That same cafe was robbed a month ago, and deputies caught some robbers in the act inside another Internet cafe in the area.

Investigators said the robbers are targeting customers and not the establishments.

The thieves would force the customers to the ground and then rob them of their belongings, investigators said.

"It was a very violent robbery. A lot of the people inside were threatened with firearms," Lauren Lettelier of the Marion County Sheriff's Office said.

The robberies happened at night.

"You can't live in fear all your life. Otherwise, you'd never leave your home," said a customer. “They need to be more secure though."

There have been many robberies at several Dollar General stores in Marion County, in addition to the rash of Internet cafe robberies.
