‘It’s all about community’: Orlando pro teams help distribute free Thanksgiving meals

ORLANDO, Fla. — Every year, different organizations throughout Central Florida hand out turkey dinners for Thanksgiving.

Seven years ago, the Orlando City Soccer Club joined that effort.

This year, they partnered with Publix and Orlando Commissioner Regina Hill to pass out enough food to feed 1,000 families on Thanksgiving.

“We know this has been such a horrible, difficult couple of years,” Orlando City Foundation President Kay Rawlins said. “So to be able to bring a day of happiness, a day of really good food, friendship, people getting together with their families...just means the world to us.”

“This is an event that I really enjoy, and I love,” Orlando Pride Defender Toni Pressley said. “It’s all about community, and I feel very grateful to be able to give back to our neighbors here in Parramore and make sure they have a wonderful Thanksgiving.”

Not far from Exploria Stadium. Orlando City’s basketball neighbors are also giving back this year with multiple events planned throughout the holidays.

Just last week, Orlando Magic point guard Markelle Fultz helped hand out 300 turkeys in Eatonville.

They’re planning another event this week with rookies Jalen Suggs and Franz Wagner among the players helping to give back.

“I recall growing up here with barely enough as a little girl,” Orlando Commissioner Regina Hill said. “Being able to give back to the place that I call home here in Parramore is just phenomenal.”
