Lake County deputies arrest couple who allegedly tried to kidnap Clermont family

CLERMONT, Fla. — Lake County deputies arrested two people they say allegedly tried to kidnap a family in Clermont Friday afternoon.

Mark Meinhart, 45, and Kristen Deflorio, 32, were arrested and charged with attempted luring or enticing a child after deputies say the pair pulled up alongside a woman, her daughter and her 3-year-old granddaughter and ordered them into their truck.

The family members ran inside their house, prompting Meinhart to flee around 4:30 p.m.

The family called the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and soon after, deputies found the truck and attempted to pull it over.

Meinhart, who deputies say was driving, fled from police a short distance until stopping at the intersection of John’s Lake Road and U.S. 27.

Meinhart is being held on $32,000 bail. Deflorio is being held on $30,000 bail.

Police are not releasing the identity of the victims or the address where the attempted kidnapping occurred.
