School resource officer who used Taser on Eustis High School student not facing discipline, student arrested

LAKE COUNTY, Fla. — The Lake County school resource officer who took down a student on campus with a Taser is not facing any discipline.

Instead, the student is the one facing disciplinary actions.

Video taken inside a Eustis High School cafeteria on the ninth grade campus on Tuesday afternoon shows a school resource officer using a Taser on a student, sending her to the ground.

According to a report from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, the incident started as a fight between two students. The deputy said he approached the student and then she attacked him, punching him several times in the face and kneeing him in the side.

Channel 9 first found out about what happened after the video went viral on TikTok.

A department spokesperson said this started as a fight between students. The deputy tried to break it up, but he said the girl started punching and slapping him. He said he tried to get her to stop but she didn’t, and that’s when he used the Taser on her.

The video is no longer on TikTok. It is unclear if the user took it down, or if TikTok removed it.

Deputies and students told Channel 9 the student was very angry and trying to attack a boy. When the deputy stepped in to help, they said she refused to calm down and started taking swings at the deputy.

On Thursday, the Lake County Sheriff’s Office released additional videos showing the student taking swings. After they fell to the ground, she continued to strike the deputy.

After they got back up, and the girl wouldn’t comply with the officer’s commands, he used the Taser.

The sheriff’s office said the officer did everything by the book, and he tried to take her to the ground without hurting her.

The student has since been arrested.

The video marks the second time in as many days that footage shows a school resource officer using force on a student.

The Osceola County Sheriff’s Office is turning its investigation into a social media video of a school resource officer taking a student to the ground during a “confrontation” at Liberty High School over to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. Read more here.
