SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. - A Seminole County mother was arrested after she traveled to California and left her three children home alone, deputies said.

Naiele Santa Ana Olivas, 29, of Lake Mary, was arrested Friday and charged with three counts of child neglect.

Olivas left her home Jan. 8 and left her children, ages 11, 9 and 8, without any supervision, deputies said.

Deputies said she left her 11-year-old in charge of the other siblings.

"They cannot be left home alone for days on end while the mother goes to California. That's unacceptable," said Kim Cannady, with the Seminole County Sheriff's Office.

One of the children called family members on Jan. 11, and family took care of the kids, deputies said.

Investigators called Olivas in California, and she was arrested when she returned to Seminole County, deputies said. She told investigators that the grandmother was watching the children, but that wasn't the case, deputies said.

Investigators told Channel 9's Samantha Manning that the mother intended to leave her children home alone for more than a week.

Olivas recently moved to Florida from California, and the children were not enrolled in school, deputies said.

Olivas has posted bail and is out of the Seminole County jail.
