Deputies shoot man they say tried to run them over

FRUITLAND PARK, Fla. — Lake County investigators spent the afternoon at the scene of a deputy-involved shooting Thursday.

Two deputies shot a man near Fruitland Park.

According to the Lake County Sheriff's Office, the deputies confronted Jeremy Walker, 24, outside an abandoned house. Investigators said Walker was wanted on outstanding felony warrants.

According to investigators, Walker began fighting with deputies before getting away and into his car.

Investigators said Walker tried to run over one of the deputies.

The deputies shot Walker, investigators said.

"The fight was on, he was actively combating our deputies and resiting arrest with violence," said Lt. John Herrell of the Lake County Sheriff's Department.

According to the Sheriff's Officer, Walker's wounds are non-life-threatening.

Sheriff's officials said that contrary to what witnesses told WFTV earlier in the day, there was no chase involved.

Investigators said Walker has been arrested eight times in Lake County.

Walker's brother was in the car with him at the time of the shooting, deputies said.

Investigators have not released the names of the deputies involved in the shooting.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.
