Lakeland police chief off the job

LAKELAND, Fla. — Lakeland's police chief is no longer on the job even though her resignation doesn't go into effect for another two months.

Last month, Lisa Womack announced plans to resign May 1.

But WFTV learned Friday that this past Monday was her last day.

Womack came under fire after the state attorney released a report showing how far she bent the rules to help her nephew land a job at the department.

Womack will still be an independent consultant for the department and be paid $5,800 every two weeks.
