Livestreaming robots may help Orange County virtual students connect with classmates, teachers from home

The innovative program, called Swivl, brings distance learning up close.

The program provides a robotic livestream that allows students in any location to interact with their teacher and other students in real-time. The program follows the regular bell schedule.

The district said the hybrid system would include wraparound support.

Like with virtual learning, a family would commit to Swivl one semester at a time, and students are encouraged to transition back to school when possible.

The district said the Swivl will not be used in every classroom, but that it is one tool that some teachers may utilize if responses to the parent surveys indicate a need to combine face-to-face and virtual students in one classroom.
