Local Army Reserve soldiers prepare to leave for Afghanistan

SANFORD, Fla. — More than a dozen Army Reserve soldiers participated in a mobilization and farewell ceremony on Saturday before their deployment to Afghanistan.

The Army Reserve's 505th Transportation Company Port Management Team is based in Sanford. The soldiers will soon be departing for Camp Shelby, Miss., where they'll train before deployment to Afghanistan.

The unit will manage marine terminal operations and assist with retrograde operations as part of Operation Enduring Freedom.

A farewell ceremony for the soldiers was held Saturday afternoon at the 1st Lt. David R. Wilson Army Reserve Center.
