Teen accused of stealing car in Daytona while baby was inside

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — A teenager is accused of stealing a car from a woman in Daytona Beach with her 1-month-old baby inside it.

Authorities said several cars were stolen from a local dealership Thursday night, and investigators spent Friday tracking them down.

An officer spotted one of the cars Friday evening on International Speedway Boulevard, which is when a 17-year-old jumped out of one stolen car and fled on foot as officers boxed him in.

The teen, according to authorities, then ran onto the Bethune Cookman University campus, hopped into a woman's car and drove off.

The woman began yelling, "My baby, my baby," as the teenager drove away.

Authorities said the teen led them on a 4-mile chase with the baby still in the vehicle, eventually crashing near the intersection of Derbyshire Road and 13th Street.

The baby appeared to be OK but was taken to Halifax Hospital to be checked.

The teen was taken into custody. His name hasn't been released.
