Man arrested in Orange Co. tow truck scam

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County deputies said a tow truck operator is scamming drivers.

Deputies said Francisco Maldonaldo was towing cars in an unmarked vehicle and not driving them to a tow yard.

Arrest papers said he asked at least five people to meet him behind grocery stores to pay and pick up their vehicles.

Deputies said Maldonado asked for $145 from drivers, who then called police.

"I think that's terrible because people don't know the consequences of that. Now I know we're apparently getting our cars taken by people who can't be trusted at all," said one victim.

Deputies arrested Maldonaldo and said they think the incident is part of an ongoing scam.
