Career criminal arrested after allegedly pulling gun on officers during traffic stop

PALM BAY, Fla. — A man who pulled a gun on officers during a traffic stop on Wyoming Drive in Palm Bay was arrested early Monday morning, police said.

Police said John Kitchen, 42, is a career criminal.

Kitchen was spotted walking near the area where the incident happened, and he did not resist, police said.

Officers said they pulled Kitchen over, and when they approached the car, he jumped out, pointed a gun at them and ran into a nearby neighborhood.

Police said they used K-9s and helicopters to look for Kitchen.

WFTV searched the Department of Corrections database and found Kitchen had faced several charges for robbery since the early 90s in Palm Beach. He was in and out of state prisons since then, and was last released in 2010.

Kitchen could be charged with aggravated assault with a weapon, police said.
