Man killed after stolen truck flips while trying to flee

APOPKA, Fla. — Authorities said Apopka police are investigating a fatal wreck, involving a stolen vehicle Thursday morning.

The owner of a Chevy Silverado, Randy Brown, said he heard someone start his pickup around 3 a.m. Thursday outside his Midland Avenue home.

"We came out, saw the truck gone, went from there and called 911," said Brown.

Police said they arrived at Brown's home and as they were talking with the victim, they saw the truck pass by.

"I couldn't believe they'd just drive it right back here," said Brown. "Apopka police got here really quickly. The end result wasn't very good, but they did a fine job."

Officers said they were able to drive behind the truck. Police said the truck then flipped when the driver lost control on N. Orange Blossom Trail near Lake Avenue.

Police said one man was killed and another man fled from the crash.

It is not known which man was the driver, officers said.

Neighbors who spoke with WFTV said the crime was unusual for their neighborhood.

"I will be a little cautious and be a little watchful you know," said resident L.C. Benson. "It won't change how I live."

The name of the man killed in the crash was not released. Police are still searching for the man who fled the scene.
