Police search for gunman in fatal Ocoee shooting

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orlando and Ocoee police are investigating a shooting that left one man dead.

Officers were called to The Villas at Woodmere community on Aloha Bay Court around 10:30 p.m. Saturday after reports of a shooting in the area.

Officers found a wounded victim, identified as 29-year-old Khalique Welch, near the front door of a townhome. He was later pronounced dead at Health Central Hospital.

"I heard what I thought were fire crackers, but I wasn't sure if they were gunshots or not. When another person told me they had heard the same thing, I knew that they were gunshots. I heard three," said resident Roxanna Velez.

The Joint Homicide Investigation Team Task Force gathered evidence from the home well into Sunday morning as they searched for the gunman.

“We are obviously canvassing the area for video surveillance and other witnesses that might have seen or heard something,” said Sgt. Dan Brady.

They are not releasing the cause of Welch’s death, pending a report from the medical examiner’s office.

No additional details are being released.

Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call Crimeline at 1-800-423-TIPS.
