Father of pregnant shooting victim talks to WFTV

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The father of a pregnant woman who was fatally shot on Thursday spoke to WFTV about the incident and the condition of his daughter's surviving newborn twin.

Investigators said Michael Boyce, 33, was arrested Thursday after he allegedly shot his wife, Alexis Boyce, in the head. Michael Boyce was denied bond during his first court appearance at the jail on Saturday.
Alexis Boyce was 8 months pregnant with twins when she was shot at her family's apartment on Nikki Court in Orange County. Authorities said Alexis Boyce was pronounced dead at Orlando Regional Medical Center, along with one of her unborn sons. The surviving twin is in the neonatal intensive care unit at Winnie Palmer Hospital.
Leon Huntley, Alexis Boyce's father, was in the next room when the shooting happened and called 911.
"I demanded that he put his weapon down, I demanded that," Huntley said.
Leon Huntley told WFTV's Mario Boone that the shooting left his family grieving and searching for answers.

"It really dawned on me as I went to meet the ambulance ... Then I basically lost it," Leon Huntley said.

The surviving twin, Jael Huntley, remains in stable but critical condition at the hospital.

Alexis Boyce's father said his daughter, known among friends as Lexi, was in the U.S. Navy and only moved to the home after she found out she was pregnant.

"I don't know that anybody that knew her had anything bad to say about her, everybody loved her," Leon Huntley said.

Detectives said when they arrived at the apartment Michael Boyce told them his wife had shot herself. However, Michael Boyce was found standing near his wife and holding a handgun, detectives said. He has been charged with first-degree murder.
