Man stabbed during altercation at Melbourne home

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Deputies were called to a home in Melbourne after reports of a stabbing on Monday.

Authorities said a former resident of a home on Four Lakes Drive showed up and tried to enter from the rear of the home.

The homeowner told Channel 9 she had rented her house to a 20-year-old man but kicked him out recently.

She said the man made threats in the past and returned to the house Monday, which is when an altercation broke out.

The Brevard County Sheriff's Office said when the former resident returned he was stabbed in the abdomen during the altercation.

The victim was flown to Holmes Regional Medical Center in critical condition where he underwent surgery.

Deputies had been to the home in the past to assist the man with removing items from the home, Channel 9 learned.

Authorities continue to investigate whether the stabbing was self-defense or stand your ground. So far, no charges have been filed.
