Man who allegedly killed grandmother, great-grandmother denied bail

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — A man accused of killing his grandmother and great-grandmother was denied bail Monday during his court appearance.

Azael Stevens, 22, entered a not guilty plea.

Investigators with the Marion County Sheriff's Office said Azael was arrested for killing his grandmother and great-grandmother in Ocala early Sunday morning.

Deputies responded to a home on SW 19th Avenue when a neighbor called 911 shortly before 2:00 a.m. The neighbor called for help when an 8-year-old boy, whose mother had been shot, went to the neighbor's house, deputies said.

According to investigators, the boy's mother, 47-year-old Jacqueline Gonzalez, had been shot in the face.  The boy was not injured.

"The little boy said, 'She's been shot. My mom's been shot. And there's a lady and another lady that's been shot,'" said neighbor Steven Johnson.

Officials said deputies  found two women deceased from gunshot wounds in the living room of the home.

Deputies went to the hospital to speak with Gonzalez, who officials said is a friend of the victims. Deputies learned that the man responsible for the shootings is the grandson of one of the victims.

Stevens had fled the scene in Gonzalez's car, according to officials. Stevens was later found inside the car and taken into custody.

Stevens was arrested and charged with two counts of murder, attempted murder, and grand theft auto.

Officials have not released the names of the deceased victims.
