ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A judge set the trial date for accused killer Markeith Loyd for May 2019 in Orange County court Wednesday.
Loyd is accused of killing his pregnant ex-girlfriend Sade Dixon and her unborn baby as well as Orlando police Lt. Debra Clayton.
Though the judge set the trial date for May 6, that doesn't mean it may not be moved later.
That's because Loyd’s attorneys are expected to raise more challenges to the death penalty case, as well as other issues that have not yet been presented before the court.
They may continue to raise legal questions about whether Dixon's unborn baby counts as a murder victim.
In court Wednesday, the defense raised the issue of use of force against Loyd during his arrest.
