Mayor Jacobs works to keep day cares, playgrounds safe following crash

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Orange County Mayor Teresa Jacobs has formed a team to find out if more should be done to protect day cares and elder care centers.

The mayor sent out a memo to county commissioners that said the team will determine the risk of crashes near day care centers, elder care facilities and playgrounds.

The idea came after the fatal day care crash at KinderCare when a car rear-ended and barreled through the facility.

Lily Quintus, 4, was killed and a dozen more children were injured.

The Florida Department of Transportation is also conducting a safety analysis along Goldenrod Road near the scene of the crash to determine if additional safety measures should be added near day care centers.
