Melbourne man accused of shooting at repo man as car was taken away

MELBOURNE, Fla. — Melbourne police arrested a man they said fired multiple shots at a repossession worker driving away with his vehicle.

Investigators said the repo man lawfully took possession of Kevin Claybourne’s truck at the Caribbean Isle Apartments on Saturday.

Police said Claybourne got in another car, chased the repo man and opened fire.

The vehicles were stopped by police in a parking lot of the Marriott Residence Inn on South Babcock Street.

Officers said they found a handgun in the vehicle Claybourne was driving.

Claybourne went before a judge over the weekend, who told him although he has no prior convictions, the charges are serious.

He’s facing charges of aggravated assault with a firearm, two counts of shooting a deadly missile unto an unoccupied dwelling and fleeing or eluding.

The judge ordered Claybourne to turn in any firearms he owns to the police department.

Claybourne also is not allowed to have any contact with the repossession company.

He remains in jail on a $6,000 bond.
