Moss Park swimming area closed because of high bacteria levels

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — The swimming area in Orange County's Moss Park has been closed because of high levels of bacterial contamination in water, according to the county.

The county said swimming in Lake Mary Jane has been banned until further notice.

According to the county, state law requires the county to take monthly water samples, which are then tested for fecal coliform bacteria. If the results show contamination, a second test is done within 24 hours. If the second test shows high levels of the bacteria, the swimming area must be closed immediately.

The swimming area will remain closed until further testing shows the water to be safe, according to the county.
