NASA hires new contractors for future space missions

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. — NASA awarded contracts to three companies that could one day help take astronauts to and from the International Space Station.

The U.S. is relying on Russia for these transportation services since the shuttles retired.

The Boeing Company, Sierra Nevada Corporation Space System and Space Exploration Technologies were awarded contracts.

The companies will work with NASA on spacecraft, launch vehicles and ground and mission operations.
