NASA loses contact with cloud-studying spacecraft after 15-year science mission

BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Battery issues have forced NASA to end a 15-year mission that studied the clouds at the edge of space.

The spacecraft AIM is no longer supporting operations.

Its batteries began declining in 2019 but was still sending data.

However, it is now unable to receive commands or collect data.

The original mission was completed in 2009, but NASA was able to extend the mission for several more years.
