BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — Brevard County will provide millions of dollars in assistance to residents struggling financially because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials said the money, which can be applied for beginning Wednesday, can be used to pay rent or make mortgage payments.

County Commissioners voted to use $4.4 million of its CARES Act funding to help those residents in need.
In July, commissioners said they will reassess the most immediate needs and decide how to best use the county's remaining CARES Act funding.
The county still has another $40 million left to allocate out of the $105 million the county received from the federal government for COVID-19 relief.
“This is very critical right now,” said Dr. Miriam Moore, with the Brevard Homeless Coalition. “The governor’s executive order that is postponing evictions for nonpayment of rent is only through June 2. Commissioners are not meeting in the month of June, so we need a policy in place to get these funds distributed as quickly as possible.”
