Ocala man accused of driving drunk, leaving 4-year-old daughter home alone

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — Troopers said an Ocala man went out drinking and left his 4-year-old daughter home alone early Saturday morning.

Wilfred Knapp, 41, was pulled over by a state trooper around 3 a.m. Saturday after he was spotted driving the wrong way on Pine Avenue, officials said.

Knapp apparently showed signs of impairment and his breath smelled like alcohol, according to troopers.

While being questioned, officials said Knapp told the trooper he left his 4-year-old daughter at home to go out drinking. Police subsequently went to Knapp's home and found the girl alone, sleeping in her room.

Knapp is facing DUI and child neglect charges. He was booked into the Marion County jail.

Knapp's daughter was turned over to another family member. The Department of Children and Families was notified about the incident.
