Ocala woman accused of swindling 89-year-old woman out of $60K

OCALA, Fla. — An Ocala woman is accused of swindling an 89-year-old woman out of $60,000.

Officials arrested 28-year-old Tamarah S. Dalton on Tuesday and she remained in the Marion County Jail on Thursday.

The Ocala Star-Banner reports that an attorney representing the victim says she was visited often by a man and a woman. He says it was discovered that checks were written, forged and cashed against her bank account beginning in late 2011. He says the victim wasn't aware the theft had taken place.

Marion County Sheriff's detective Adrian Lewis found 53 checks made payable to Dalton. Lewis met with Dalton, who denied at first that she'd received money from the woman. Later Dalton admitted writing the checks.

Dalton is charged with fraud and with larceny. She is being held at the Marion County Jail on a $40,000 bond.

Jail records did not list an attorney for Dalton.
