Officer suspended after bra-shaking search

LAKELAND, Fla. — A Lakeland Police Department officer has been suspended in connection with an incident in which he asked a woman pulled over for a traffic stop to shake out her bra to see if she was hiding drugs.

The Lakeland Ledger reports Officer Dustin Fetz was suspended for a day without pay for misusing recording equipment. Investigators found the audio on his recorder was off while taping the incident because Fetz didn't use the microphone provided.

LPD spokesman Sgt. Gary Gross said Fetz was notified of his suspension Wednesday.

Videotape of the bra-shaking incident ignited public outrage.

Lakeland Police Chief Lisa Womack said in August department policy required a same-sex officer to do strip searches. But the department's review found the search did not violate police policy or the law.
