Suspicious bag that caused lockdown at Orange County Courthouse was full of clothes

ORLANDO, Fla. — Portions of the Orange County courthouse were placed on lockdown Monday morning due to a suspicious bag.

Channel 9's Steve Barrett said Orange Avenue was shut down through Colonial Drive due to the incident, but the roads have since reopened.

The bag was deemed suspicious, but authorities said it turned out to be full of clothes.

"Anytime we have an unidentified package, we always take the same precaution," said District Chief Edward Torres of the Orlando Fire Department. "Obviously with the courthouse being a high target probability, the hazard is identified as something we should respond to."

Officials said the backpack was left behind by someone outside the state attorney’s office.

The evacuation was called off about 10:20 a.m.

Most business went on as usual inside the courthouse during the incident. It's unclear how many court proceedings were delayed.
