Stolen vehicle call leads to officer-involved shooting in Orange City, police say

ORANGE CITY, Fla. — Officials in Volusia County responded to an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon.

The incident stemmed from an officer attempting to conduct a traffic stop on a stolen vehicle in Orange City on Enterprise Road, according to police.

Neighbors in the area said a female passenger inside a blue truck was shot and that the male driver fled. The man, who has not yet had his identity released by officials, was later apprehended.

No officers were injured in the shooting, according to officials.

The individual who was shot sustained non-life threatening injuries, according to police.

A woman told Channel 9 that the truck belongs to her brother, who works in Lake County.

"It's crazy," said Kristen Wenke. "I'm glad that my brother is...that he's safe, so I hope everyone else involved is safe too."

Orange City police said Florida Department of Law Enforcement officials will interview the officer that discharged their weapon.
