1 dead, 1 critically injured in shooting near Azalea Park

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police are staying tight-lipped about the circumstances surrounding the shooting of a 23-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy near Azalea Park Wednesday.

On Thursday, investigators identified the victim who died in the shooting as 23-year-old Alexander St. Jean.

Neighbors living off Hendren Drive near Semoran Boulevard and Curry Ford Road said they heard several shots outside their homes around 1:30 a.m.

This scene is only about 300 feet away from a location where another man was shot and killed about a month ago.

Neighbors said they thought they lived in a safe area but are thinking twice now after having been awakeened to gunshots in the middle of the night twice..

Officers said when they arrived, the front and back doors were wide open and they could not find any victims or suspects at the residence.

Officers taped off the area and began investigating, marking several bullet casings and other evidence. They also towed away three vehicles, including one that had a bullet hole.

Later, Orlando police said someone dropped off two people with gunshot injuries at a nearby hospital.

St. Jean could not be saved, but officers said the teen will survive.

According to court records, St. Jean was convicted of two felonies for burglary and stolen property when he was a juvenile, and was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon in March.

A woman who said she's friends with the people who live in the home said the residents got into a shootout with two people who broke into the house, which police have not confirmed.
