One man killed, another injured in Orlando shooting

ORLANDO, Fla. — Investigators are looking for the person who shot and killed a man in Parramore around 3:30 a.m. Saturday.

An officer responded to a disturbance call in the area and said he heard shots being fired on Polk Street, where he discovered two men had been shot.

“As the officer began to investigate the scene several shots were fired. People began running from the area,” said Sgt. Jim Young, with the Orlando Police Department.

One of the men died at the scene and the other was taken to the hospital, where he is undergoing surgery.

“The other victim [was] possibly running from the scene [or] shot at the scene and collapsed at the 1000 block of Washington Street, where he is deceased,” Young said.

Officers closed Polk Street off Orange Blossom Trail while they investigated.

Shell casings and evidence markers covered the streets as residents and family members watched while investigators tried to find out who opened fire.

Channel 9’s Roy Ramos spoke to family members of the  deceased victim, who said he was 29 years old.

They said he was a father of four and engaged to be married.

“It was sad to see my cousin lying there,” said Lina Tassy.

His family said he may have been defending himself against a possible robbery, but investigators have not said if that was the case.

“He stayed to himself and he was very kind. I don’t know who would do something like this,” Tassy said.

Officers have not released the victims’ identities and no charges have been filed.
